5 Questions to Ask On Your Baseball Recruiting Visit

When our athletes visit a college baseball program it is important to get as much information as possible about the school, the coach, & the program.

Here are five questions they would ask the coach on their recruiting visit to the school

What are your expectations for my development and playing time?

This will give you an understanding of the coach’s plans for you as a player.

It might be a red flag if they can’t give a clear answer.

This question also covers aspects such as their philosophy on player development and how they plan to enhance your skills.

How is the academic support system in the program?

Balancing sports with academics can be challenging.

Ask about the support system the team has in place to help athletes succeed academically.

This may include study groups, tutors, academic advisors, etc.

Remember, you’re a student-athlete; the student part comes first.

Can you describe the team culture?

You’ll be spending a lot of time with the team, so it’s crucial to know whether the team’s culture aligns with your values.

Ask about team dynamics, coach-player relationships, and traditions.

You might also ask how conflicts within the team are managed.

What are the opportunities for post-collegiate careers in baseball?

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in baseball beyond college, ask the coach about their experience in preparing players for the draft or careers in coaching, scouting, and other related fields.

It’s also important to know how many of their players have gone pro, as this can give you an idea of the program’s track record.

What does a typical week look like during the season and in the off-season?

This question helps you understand the commitment that you’re making.

You should know about practice schedules, strength and conditioning, meetings, travel, and any other team obligations.
